ulp manufacturer PT Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL) is using new and more environmentally friendly technology in an effort to achieve the company’s target of zero smell emanating from its pulp factory in Toba Samosir regency, North Sumatra.
TPL director Mulia Nauli said the factory’s cooking plants were using the newest technology that could process nearly 100 percent of all wood fiber (eucalyptus) taken from the forest planted and managed by the company.
“The new system uses cold blow technology and non-condensable gas that can significantly reduce the smell emanating from the cooking of wood chips,” Mulia told The Jakarta Post in Medan.
He added that with this technology, the factory could also reduce electricity consumption and minimize the use of chemical materials as well as reducing liquid waste from the cooking process. He claimed that the technology would also produce a better quality of pulp and could reduce steam use by 33 percent. (bbn)
