The officers were proven to have abused drugs and deserted their posts.
The North Jakarta Police fired six officers on Tuesday who abused drugs and were absent from work.
“They have been proven to have been involved in drug abuse and desertion,” said North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Budhi Herdi Susianto as quoted by kompas.com.
Only one of the six officers attended a dismissal ceremony on Tuesday. To symbolize he was no longer part of the force, Budhi had the officer take off his uniform. The officer then left the ceremony wearing a batik shirt and a traditional peci cap.
Budhi alleged that those who committed desertion did so because they were under the influence of narcotics.
“They forgot who they were and their jobs. They didn’t go to work, hence the desertions,” he added.
During the ceremony, Budhi warned other officers to maintain good behavior.
“In doing day-to-day activities, remember our struggle. We’ve worked hard for our current positions, starting with applying to the police academy and attending studies to building our careers,” he said. (vla)
