T

o lure car owners in upscale residential areas in South Tangerang, Banten, to use the MRT service, city-owned PT Transjakarta plans to provide a premium bus service called Royaltrans to connect them with Fatmawati MRT Station in South Jakarta.

The service will be available at Giant BSD in Serpong and Bintaro Trade Center in Bintaro, and will travel via the Jakarta Outer Ring Road before arriving at Fatmawati MRT Station.

A single Royaltrans trip will cost Rp 20,000 (US$1.42) to Rp 25,000 and passengers will have to pay another fee to use the MRT service, which begins operating commercially in March.

According to Transjakarta operation director Daud Joseph, the fare was still cheaper than going by private car.

"From BSD, for instance, people will have to pay toll fees, driver, fuel and car installments. On Royaltrans, you'll just have to sit and you'll arrive at Fatmawati," he said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.

As the bus service will not have a dedicated lane, Daud acknowledged that passengers may still get stuck in traffic. "We offer convenience," he said.

Apart from BSD and Bintaro, Transjakarta will also provide a new feeder service for the MRT in Pondok Cabe and Jatijajar, South Tangerang and Cinere in Depok. A regular bus service will be provided in the area.

The first phase of the MRT, which connects Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, will begin a full trial run in the second week of March. Members of the public will be able to try the service after registering themselves at the MRT website jakartamrt.co.id. (fac)
