Cilandak Police crime unit head First Insp. Sofyan Suri said police received a report from a security guard working at the hospital, who claimed to see the suspect, named Anwar, 56, enter the mosque at 11 p.m. on Friday.
Sofyan said the suspect allegedly committed his crime together with a friend named Unang, 48, who used to work as a mosque caretaker.
"The suspect told his friend to come to the mosque by sending him a code via WhatsApp that read 'full fridge ready for harvest'", Sofyan said on Wednesday as reported by kompas.com.
Their alleged misconduct was recorded by CCTV installed inside the mosque.
They both admitted they had stolen money from the donation box several times.
"They have committed their act several times with losses amounting to Rp 3 million (US$204)," Sofyan said.
Both suspects are facing a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment. (sau)
