City-owned PT MRT Jakarta aims to attract 285,600 passengers in its public trial run, which takes place March 12 – 24.
“There will be 98 trips per day from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.,” MRT Jakarta spokesman M. Kamaluddin said on Tuesday, tempo.co reported.
Train headway will be 10 minutes and the number of train cars operating will be seven, including one allocated as a standby car.
MRT Jakarta has opened the trial run to the public through online registration. Jakarta’s MRT connects Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta with a distance of 16 kilometers.
Those interested in participating in the trial run can register through ayocobamrtj.com or online marketplace Bukalapak.
The trial run is free-of-charge.
Kamaluddin went on to say that there would be a passenger quota each day.
On March 12, the quota will be limited to 4,000 passengers and the following day 8,000 passengers. The number will increase by 4,000 per day until 24,000 on March 17.
For March 18 – 24, the quota has been set at 28,800 passengers.
Amid public enthusiasm for the trial run, several days are fully booked, in particular March 12, 13, 16 and 17. (sau)
