The program is aimed at reducing traffic congestion amid ongoing infrastructure construction along the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.
ree Transjakarta rides from Summarecon Mall in Bekasi, West Java, to Jakarta will be provided every Monday for the next two months to encourage motorists to switch to public transportation.
Transjakarta and state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga are cooperating for the program, dubbed #SeninDiOngkosin. It is aimed at reducing traffic congestion amid ongoing infrastructure construction along the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.
“Starting this Monday on March 11, from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Transjakarta service from Summarecon Mall bus stop will be free of charge,” Transjakarta’s service and development director Achmad Izzul Waro said on Sunday as quoted by tempo.co.
Two routes will be included in the program, the route to Tosari, Central Jakarta, and to Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta.
“This program is intended to reduce commuters’ transportation costs,” he added.
According to data from Transjakarta, 2,220 passengers ride the Bekasi - Tosari route daily, while 1,500 commuters travel on the Bekasi - Tanjung Priok route each day. (fac)
