he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has reportedly arrested the leader of an Islamist party on corruption charges in East Java.
East Java Police spokesperson Frans Barung Mangera confirmed that the antigraft commission had arrested United Development Party (PPP) chairman M. Romahurmuziy during a raid.
“The PPP chairman [was arrested] at the Religious Affairs Ministry’s regional office in Sidoarjo,” Frans told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
The party chairman was reportedly questioned at the East Java Police headquarters after the raid.
The KPK has yet to provide official confirmation of the arrest.
The reported arrest took place only weeks before the April presidential and legislative elections. The PPP is part of an alliance of parties supporting incumbent candidate President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
