laten Police in Central Java have confirmed arrest of a woman identified only as Y in Joton village, Klaten, on Thursday for her alleged involvement in the explosions in Sibolga, North Sumatra, that have been linked to Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).

“We have received information from Densus 88 [antiterrorism squad] regarding the arrest. She was allegedly involved in the terrorist activities in Sibolga,” Klaten Police chief Sr. Comr. Aries Andhi said on Friday.

He added that the police had seized Y’s mobile phone, including its SIM card.

Early on Wednesday morning, an explosion rocked a neighborhood in Sibolga after the wife of a suspected terrorist detonated a bomb at their residence, killing herself and her 2-year-old son. The police have arrested five suspects — three men and two women. They are suspected of being affiliated with the outlawed homegrown pro-Islamic State (IS) terrorist group JAD.

Densus 88, Aries said, had taken the 35 year-old woman to Jakarta for further interrogation after arresting her at her parent’s house.

“The family said Y came to the house to take her niece to Jakarta on holiday,” he added.

The village head, Wakijo, said Y was only at her parent’s house for 10 days after having been away for more than 15 years.

“Y grew up here. I know her as a good person because she has never done anything wrong,” he said. (das)
