MRT Jakarta has increased the passenger quota for the trial run from 28,800 passengers a day to 50,000.
T MRT Jakarta has increased its quota for the MRT trial run from March 18 to 23 in response to the public’s enthusiasm about the new mode of transportation.
MRT Jakarta corporate secretary M. Kamaluddin said it had increased the quota from 28,800 passengers a day to 50,000 during the public trial run, which has been held since March 12. Trips during the trial run are free-of-charge.
“That means we’ve increased the quota by 21,200 passengers a day,” Kamaluddin said on Sunday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
Kamaluddin added it had also extended the MRT’s operational hours to 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to accommodate passengers who would like to use the service to travel to and from work.
“Previously we operated from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but we have extended the operational hours,” he said.
The first day of the trial run saw 4,000 passengers hop aboard.
For the two-week trial run, MRT Jakarta has opened all 13 stations along the 16-km route from Lebak Bulus to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, which includes 10 km of elevated railway and 6 km of underground tunnel.
The train headway will be 10 minutes with each train consisting of seven cars, including one allocated as a standby car.
