utch police said they were investigating whether there was a "terrorist motive" behind a shooting on a tram in the city of Utrecht that caused multiple injuries Monday.
"A possible terrorist motive is part of the investigation," Utrecht police said on Twitter as quoted by AFP.
The head of the Dutch national counter-terrorism service, Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg, said on Twitter that he was having "crisis consultations," adding: "Terrorist motive not excluded. Information not yet full."
A government agency said Dutch authorities raise terrorism threat level to highest in province in Utrecht, Reuters reported.
AFP, quoting Dutch ANP news agency, reported on Monday 6:17 p.m. Jakarta time that at least one person was killed in a shooting on a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht.
The victim was completely covered with a sheet and lying on the tracks between two carriages, ANP quoted one of its reporters as saying. There was no immediate official confirmation.
Reuters reported that Dutch Police instruct schools in Utrecht to keep doors closed following a report that the shooter was still at large.
