he Jakarta Police have named Ramyadjie Priambodo a suspect for alleged ATM skimming in which he is believed to have used people’s data to steal their money from ATMs.

The 37-year-old, who is confirmed to be a distant relative of presidential candidate and Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto, is alleged to have carried out the crime at least 50 times, Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said.

“The suspect wore a hijab when withdrawing money in South Tangerang and South Jakarta. In CCTV footage, he looks like a woman,” he said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.

When the police raided his apartment on Jl Sudirman, South Jakarta, on Feb. 26, law enforcement officers confiscated Rp 300 million (US$21,000), ATM cards, a mobile phone, a laptop and a white card that stored the data of bank customers. The police also found an ATM machine in his room, which he was believed to have used to learn how to steal money, Argo said.

The investigation and his arrest came following a report filed by a private lender to the police on Feb. 11.

Prabowo’s campaign team spokesperson Sufmi Dasco Ahmad admitted that the suspect was related to Prabowo.

“We want to clarify that he’s not Prabowo’s nephew, but a distant relative,” he said. (fac)
