Police in Central Jakarta have arrested a teenager after months of pursuit, for allegedly stealing 15 motorcycles.
"The thief told us he had stolen 15 motorcycles," said Johar Baru Police crime unit chief M. Rasid on Tuesday.
The police had been trying to catch him since December last year, but always failed because the teenager, identified only as ANT, frequently moved to other places.
He usually operated in Central Jakarta, East Jakarta and Bekasi in West Java.
On March 15 at 3 a.m., the police finally caught him on Jl. Narada Ujung in Johar Baru.
"During the arrest, we also seized letter T and Y keys and four regular keys that he usually used to steal motorcycles," Rasid said.
ANT was usually helped by friends to carry out the crimes. They allegedly walked to wherever there were motorcycles parked and stole one of them.
"ANT was tasked with stealing the motorcycle while his friends guarded him," he added, noting that the police were still looking for ANT's partners.
ANT will be charged under Article 363 of the Criminal Code on theft, which carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison. (vla)
