Surabaya's water company wants to supply potable tap water to all residents of the city, beginning with the district of Wonokromo.
urabaya's water company PDAM Surya Sembada wants to purify all tap water in East Java's capital city to make it safe for residents to consume without boiling.
PDAM director of services Anizar Firmadi said around 500 households in Wonokromo district were already enjoying drinkable tap water since last year, when the company started purifying the water.
“Now, some people in the area can just drink tap water,” he told liputan6.com in Surabaya on Friday.
Anizar said the drinking water had gone through chemical and biological processes in compliance with government regulations.
“We use hygienic processing techniques to kill E. coli bacteria in the tap water that cause digestive disorders, such as diarrhea,” he said.
Anizar added that PDAM planned to implement similar measures throughout Wonokromo.
“Our target for the future is to implement this project widely so that people in the city no longer have to boil water,” he added. (das)
