Azerbaijanis were jubilant recently as their country joined the club of nations with over 10 million people. The 10 millionth child was born on April 6 in Baku, according to a senior Azerbaijani diplomat in Jakarta.
“Now we have become a country of 10 million people after the birth of Mehriban Hasanova on April 6 in Baku. Now we are the 90th biggest country in the world in terms of population,” the Azerbaijan Embassy’s charge d’affaires Ruslan Nasibov told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, according to Ruslan, and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva congratulated the people of Azerbaijan and the parents of newly born Mehriban. President Aliyev met the parents of the child.
Azerbaijan, the biggest country in the South Caucasus, maintains cordial relations with Indonesia, home to the world’s biggest Muslim population. Both Azerbaijan and Indonesia are members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and work closely at various international forums.
