awah Besar Police are currently investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered in a parking basement in the Media Hotel and Towers in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta on Thursday evening.

The woman, identified as 46-year-old IC, was found inside her car in the parking lot in the hotel’s basement by her husband Franky at about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The head of the criminal investigation unit of the Sawah Besar Police, Adj. Comr. Ade Candra, said investigators had started questioning witnesses, including Franky, and were also checking the hotel’s CCTV footage.

“No CCTV [cameras] were installed inside the basement. The hotel management only put one at the entrance. The basement was dark because the light was not turned on [when the victim was found],” Ade said on Friday as reported by Antara news agency.

IC regularly parked her car in the hotel’s basement after work every day, which is not far away from her house on Jl. Kartini in Sawah Besar subdistrict.

Ade said Franky grew worried after IC had not arrived at their house by 6 p.m. as she usually arrived home at 5:30 p.m. According to police, after calling and texting IC without response, Franky decided to go to the hotel to check if his wife had already arrived. He found their car, which was unlocked, with IC dead inside, face down.

Ade said IC was found with bruises on her neck, which he said could have been caused by strangulation. Her belongings, such as a cellphone, bag and car keys, were missing.

“We are still waiting for the autopsy results to determine the cause of death,” he said.

Police said investigators also found bathroom cleaning liquid poured on the woman's body, on the door handle and around her car.

At the time IC was found, a fire had also broken out at the hotel. The fire, apparently caused by an electrical short circuit in a store room, claimed one life, a security officer named Dian, 35, who died from smoke inhalation. (das)
