full trial run of the Kelapa Gading-Velodrome LRT Jakarta line began on Monday after the standard operational document was approved by the Transportation Ministry.
Corporate communication manager of PT LRT Jakarta Melisa Suciati said the trial run was held to familiarize all staff with the LRT ’s standard operating procedure prior to its commercial operation.
“The trial run is expected to minimize all potential risks that could disrupt the operations”, she said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.
Previously, the administration aimed to open the 5.8-kilometer line in time for the 18th Asian Games, which ran from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2 last year, to connect venues in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, to the Jakarta International Velodrome in East Jakarta.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan later stated that it was set to operate in early 2019.
As of Monday, LRT Jakarta had yet to set a date for its commercial operation.
Anies previously said he was not in a hurry to officially launch the LRT, saying it would be officiated after it was ready for full operation.
A trip on the Kelapa Gading-Velodrome LRT line, the first to be completed, takes around 13 minutes, with the train traveling at 40 kilometers per hour.
The standard fare has been set at Rp 5,000 (35 US cents), as stipulated in Gubernatorial Decree No. 34/2019 on MRT and LRT ticket prices. (das)
