A

brawl reportedly broke out between two groups of teenagers in Petamburan, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, early on Thursday morning.

Ali, a local who works as a food seller, said the brawl occurred at around 2.30 a.m. on Jl. Petamburan III.

The brawl lasted about half an hour, he said.

“I don’t know who they are. [They] suddenly attacked [each other],” Ali said, adding that some threw stones that hit his food stall.

Hearing the commotion, a number of locals who were watching TV together went outside to see what was happening.

“They were throwing stones at each other,” Ali said.

One local said the teenagers seemed to be trying to wake people up for sahur (predawn meal) for Ramadan.

The brawl ended when the police arrived and attempted to chase after the teenagers with motorcycles. (sau)
