After a long stretch of delays, LRT Jakarta now targets to begin operations by the end of May as it awaits the completion of a bridge that will integrate its Velodrome Station with Pemuda Transjakarta shelter in Rawamangun, East Jakarta.
RT Jakarta has said it is waiting for the completion of a bridge connecting Velodrome Station with Pemuda Transjakarta shelter in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, before it starts operating.
Project director of city-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo Iwan Takwin said they expected the bridge would be finished by the end of May, in line with its targets.
"We are now rushing to integrate both services. [It means] we can also take passengers from Dukuh Atas," he said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
"We are aiming to connect the inner parts of the station and shelter so that passengers will not have to exit [when continuing with their jourey]," he added.
After the sky bridge is completed, Iwan said the LRT will be ready to run.
"[Construction] has reached 60 percent completion. The bridge's parts are being manufactured in a factory. Once it's finished, it will be sent here and we will install it," he said.
The first line of the LRT stretches 5.8 kilometers from the Velodrome to Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. It was initially prepared for the 2018 Asian Games but its operation kept being pushed back for various reasons. (vla/iwa)
