Rally participants are planning to stay at the Al Furqoon Mosque in Kramat, Central Jakarta, which is only about 3 kilometers from the General Elections Commission building.
upporters of losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto are still planning to take to the streets to challenge the election results, despite a warning from security officials that the rally could become the target of a terrorist attack.
M. Roni, who coordinated a “Jihad Tour” package service for those coming from East Java, said on Saturday that some participants had already departed for Jakarta to participate in a street protest at the General Elections Commission (KPU) building on May 22, when the KPU is expected to announce the victory of incumbent President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
As of Saturday, the KPU finished tabulating votes in 28 of 34 provinces nationally. Jokowi led the polls with 55 percent of the vote.
Roni said 80 people had joined the group as of Saturday. However, Roni said many would travel by themselves in trains, planes and private automobiles.
"What are you afraid of? If there would be a bomb, why is the government not taking any preventive measures?” Roni asked on Saturday. "We will leave security to them."
Roni organized transportation and accommodations for the rally participants for five days in Jakarta, excluding meals. He offered a number of packages, such as one costing Rp 600,000 per person for 12 people using minibuses and Rp 600,000 per person for six people using SUVs. The participants can pay less if they travel in large groups.
He said the group would stay at the Al Furqoon Mosque in Kramat, Central Jakarta, which is only about 3 kilometers from the KPU building. They would return to Surabaya on May 23 at dawn.
