Jakarta Great Sale 2019 to target millennials

Themed "Shopping Spirit", the Jakarta Great Sale Festival will run from May 25 until June 23.

nother round of the Jakarta Great Sale Festival will begin on Thursday, targeting millennials , with 26 shopping malls participating.

Themed “Shopping Spirit”, the festival will run from May 25 until June 23, chief organizer Ellen Hidayat said. 

"We are specifically targeting millennials," Ellen said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.

Introduced in 1982, the festival is usually held to celebrate Jakarta’s anniversary, which falls on June 22.

In 1982, the city administration held an event called Festival Pertokoan (Shopping Festival). The name was later changed to Pesta Diskon (Discount Party). In the 1990s, the city starting calling the festival the Jakarta Great Sale before changing it to Jakarta Great Sale Festival.

This year's sale festival will be conducted in several malls across Jakarta. 

Participating shopping malls include: Kuningan City, Transmart Cilandak, Senayan City, Pejaten Village, Plaza Blok M, Kalibata City Square, Kota Kasablanka, Lippo Kemang, One Belpark, Plaza Semanggi and Pejaten Village in South Jakarta; Grand Indonesia, Plaza Indonesia and Plaza Atrium in Central Jakarta; Central Park Neo Soho and Lippo Mall Puri in West Jakarta; Mall Artha Gading, Mall Kelapa Gading, Pluit Village, PIK Avenue, Emporium Pluit Mall, Baywalk Mall and Mall of Indonesia in North Jakarta; and Lippo Plaza Kramat Jati, Mall @Bassura, Cibubur Junction and Aeon Mall Jakarta Garden City in East Jakarta.
