hile many roads are shut due to deadly riots protesting the results of the presidential election, the 2019 Jakarta Fair officially opened on Wednesday at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran, in Central Jakarta.

The event, which is in its 52nd year, attracted large crowds of Jakartans.

PT JIExpo marketing director Ralph Scheunemann assured interested visitors they would not need to worry about ongoing riots in Central and West Jakarta.

“Through the Jakarta Fair, people will know that despite the capital’s current condition, we can still hold an exhibition. So, don’t worry about the protests out there,” he said on Wednesday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

“Many visitors come and pack the exhibition area and shops,” he added.

He went on to ensure that the protests do not affect the exhibition schedule, adding that all booths and tenants opened on Wednesday.

The 2019 Jakarta Fair will run through June 30.

Just like in previous years, booths in the exhibition are filled by companies selling a range of products, ranging from cars and motorcycles, electronics, sports equipment, fashion accessories and garments, to household utilities, furniture, food, handcrafts, herbs and medicine, cosmetics, banking services and much more.

The exhibition committee has also prepared several attractions and a main stage where many musicians and bands are slated to perform.

“There will be a Parade Karnaval, Gambir Expo Stage, Miss Jakarta Fair Contest, Cosplay Contest, Barongsai Night, a Snow Park area and a lantern park to entertain the visitors,” Ralph said. (vla/iwa)
