osing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto has appointed four lawyers to challenge the election results at the Constitutional Court (MK) following the official announcement of the incumbent President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s victory.

Prabowo camp spokesman Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak confirmed that the legal coordinator was Rikrik Rizkiyana.

“Meanwhile, the legal team consists of Denny Indrayana, Bambang Widjojanto and Irman Putra Sidin,” Dahnil said in Prabowo’s residence in South Jakarta as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.

Rikrik is in charge of the regulation harmonization division while Bambang heads the corruption prevention committee at the Jakarta Governor’s Team for Accelerated Development (TGUPP).

The TGUPP sparked controversy among observers who argued that comprising 73 people, it had far too many members whose salaries range from Rp 8 million (US$553) to Rp 50 million.

Bambang, a former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) commissioner, was part of Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s campaign team during the 2017 gubernatorial election.

On the appointment of his team as lawyers for Prabowo, Anies commented that “it is okay, it is the rights [of Bambang and Rikrik] as citizens”.

Separately, Central Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Harry Kurniawan said the police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) deployed 800 personnel to guard the MK building in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Friday.

The police have also closed Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat and Jl. Majapahit. (das)
