West Nusa Tenggara immigration officials nabbed for allegedly taking bribes from foreign tourists

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has apprehended the head of the Mataram Immigration Office in West Nusa Tenggara for alleged involvement in the illegal extension of tourist visas.

he Corruption E radication Commission (KPK) has apprehended the head of the Mataram Immigration Office in West Nusa Tenggara for alleged involvement in the illegal extension of tourist visas.

A team of investigators from the KPK arrested the official, identified only as K, at a coffee shop in Mataram in the early hours of Tuesday.

The KPK also took into custody four other officers who were allegedly complicit in the illegal visa extensions.

The KPK suspected that K had received bribes to extend the visa of foreign tourists who had reportedly been staying at a luxury hotel in West Lombok.

KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah confirmed the arrests, saying investigators were looking into the case.

“Yes, we did assign a team to Mataram on Monday evening,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mataram Immigration Office representative Junianto confirmed the arrest of his superior. However, he was unable to provide further information regarding the alleged crime. (rfa)
