Car Free Day has been canceled on June 2 and 9 and will resume after the Idul Fitri holiday season.
he Jakarta administration has canceled Car Free Day (CFD) on Jl. Sudirman and Jl. MH Thamrin on June 2 and 9 as officials are focusing on monitoring and securing the Idul Fitri mudik (exodus).
Idul Fitri, which marks the end of Ramadan, is expected to fall on June 5.
State toll road operator PT Jasa Marga has predicted that the peak of the Idul Fitri exodus will be on May 31 and the reverse exodus on June 9.
“We suggest all Car Free Day enthusiasts conduct their activities at locations other than Sudirman and Thamrin on June 2 and June 9 from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.,” Jakarta Transportation Agency acting head Sigit Wijatmoko said in a written statement on Thursday.
During Ramadan, Sigit said the agency had observed a decrease in the number of people taking advantage of CFD.
The agency’s officers are also required to focus on monitoring the exodus around the time of Idul Fitri.
Jl. Sudirman and Jl. MH Thamrin will once again be vehicle free on Sunday mornings after the holiday season.
