A total of 76,825 passengers had taken a ride on LRT Jakarta as of Thursday.
ity-owned company PT LRT Jakarta, which operates the LRT Jakarta, has claimed that enthusiasm is high for the latest mode of transportation after the company recorded nearly 77,000 passengers in the free public trial from June 11 to 20.
The company’s general manager for operations and service Aditya Kesuma said there were 3,600 passengers on the first day of the public trial on June 11. The number nearly tripled on Tuesday the next week to stand at nearly 9,000 passengers.
“Within a week we can see quite a high passenger trend,” he said on Friday as reported by kompas.com.
Aditya said the highest number of passengers was recorded on June 16 with 12,976 passengers, as this was during the weekend when most people have time off and took the opportunity to try the rail-based ride. The number, however, was still lower than the company’s target of 14,000 passengers daily when it is officially launched.
A total of 76,825 passengers had taken a ride on the LRT Jakarta as of Thursday. The service runs nearly 6 kilometers connecting Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta to Velodrome in East Jakarta.
LRT Jakarta president director Allan Tandiono said the number of passengers would increase as the company had completed the construction of a skybridge connecting the LRT station to a Transjakarta bus station in Rawamangun, East Jakarta.
In order to promote the service, the company will extend the free public trial in which residents will not need to register beforehand via the LRT Jakarta website.
“Starting tomorrow passengers can take a ride on the LRT Jakarta without registering. Everyone can bring their friends and family to the station and they will be welcomed,” Aditya said, adding that no date had yet been fixed for the end of the trial. (das)
