he construction of the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road, which will become the main access road to Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, West Java, will be accelerated following the relocation of flight services from Husein Satranegara Airport in Bandung to the new airport.

Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said on Tuesday the 61.72-kilometer toll road project was initially targeted to be completed in 2021.

“But because of the increase in operations at the airport, we will try to accelerate the completion of the toll road to 2020,” Basuki said as quoted by kompas.com.

As reported previously, airlines have started to relocate their flight services to the Kertajati airport as agreed by all stakeholders facilitated by the Transportation Ministry.

The Cisumdawu toll road consists of six sections. Projects for the two sections from Cileunyi to Sumedang are now under construction by the Public Works and Housing Ministry through the viability gap fund.

Meanwhile, Section 3 to 6 that spans 33.22 kilometers will be constructed by toll road developer PT Citra Karya Jabar Tol with an investment of Rp 8.41 trillion (US$595.36 million).

Basuki said the construction of Section 1 (Cileunyi-Rancakalong) had reached 72.9 percent, Section 2 (Rancakalong-Sumedang) had reached 94.25 percent and Section 3 had been fully completed.

Meanwhile, the project of the remaining sections still faces land acquisition problems, the minister said, adding that he had sought help from West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil and Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya to accelerate the land acquisition. (bbn)
