Liquid concrete from a pillar cast spilled onto a road in Bogor, West Java, injuring two workers and causing traffic congestion in the area.
iquid concrete was leaked from a pillar cast at the construction site of the Bogor Ring Road (BORR) highway project on Jl. Sholeh Iskandar in Bogor, West Java, and spilled over onto the road, causing traffic congestion in the area and injuring two workers.
The accident at the construction project, which is located on a major road linking the southern city to Jakarta, occurred at around 5:15 a.m. Traffic was diverted from the area, leading to congestion as cars avoided the spillage.
Hendro Atmodjo, CEO of PT Marga Sarana Jabar (MSJ), a branch of toll operator PT Jasa Marga, which operates the project, said that during the concrete casting process, the formwork of the pillar was not strong enough. It bent and spilled concrete onto the road underneath.
“The incident happened to the 22nd truck mixer, while we planned to have 25 truck mixers,” Hendro said in a release made available to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday. According to Hendro, there were no casualties in the incident. However two construction workers were lightly injured and are now being treated.
Motorists passing the road toward Parung are being diverted through Yasmin Intersection to Semplak-Atang Sanjaya Intersection and vice versa.
Hendro said his team was working to clean the spillage so the traffic flow could function normally again in the afternoon.
To ensure the safety of the project, the Road Bridges and Underpass Safety Commission (KKJTJ) will visit the construction site later in the day. They will study and evaluate the project process, and then use it to correct the project method to prevent a recurring incident. (gis)
