T

he Jakarta administration recently launched the '#7dayschallenge', which aims to urge civil servants to switch from private vehicles to public transportation for their daily commute.

To take part in the challenge, the civil servants have been asked to take pictures of themselves using public transportation and post them on Instagram with the hashtags #7dayschallenge, #breathjakarta, #peduliudarajakarta (care for Jakarta air) and #jakartabersih (clean Jakarta).

"It's a campaign that urges civil servants to use public transportation to reduce air pollution," Jakarta Communication and Informatics Agency spokesperson Nuning said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

"They are also encouraged to post their pictures on social media with certain hashtags as part of the campaign, so that more people will follow suit," she added.

The city has not set certain dates for the challenge to be carried out, which allows the participants to start it anytime.

The challenge was launched after residents and environmentalists grouped under Tim Advokasi Ibukota filed a lawsuit with the Central Jakarta District Court demanding that the city administration, among other parties, do something to reduce air pollution in the city. (vla)
