Rupiah remains flat after weakening 0.12 percent on Friday

he rupiah weakened against the US dollar on Friday, with the exchange rate standing at Rp 14,085 per US dollar on the spot market at 10 a.m., 0.12 percent lower than its position on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia's Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) quoted a middle exchange rate of Rp 14,085 per US dollar on Friday, 0.02 percent higher than its position on Thursday.

Several other Asian currencies also weakened on Friday: the Singapore dollar weakened 0.02 percent, the New Taiwan dollar 0.03 percent, the Korean won 0.27 percent and the Chinese yuan 0.02 percent.

Meanwhile, the US dollar index also declined to 96.96 on Friday from 97.05 on Thursday, triggered particularly by a statement from Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell that raised the possibility of a rate cut.

The rupiah exchange rate has remained flat since last Friday, when it was quoted at Rp 14.083 to the US dollar, but has strengthened 0.31 percent since June. (bbn)
