Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam signed an agreement in Bandar Seri Begawan recently to improve health care until 2020. The two countries will exchange views on public health, environmental health, workplace health and traditional medicine, among other matters. There will also be exchange programs for medical students and lecturers between the two countries.

The agreement, valid until next year, was signed by Indonesia’s Health Ministry secretary-general Oscar Primadi and permanent secretary at Brunei’s Health Ministry Awang Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman.

The agreement marked the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the health ministers of the two countries in 2015. Both countries are set to hold another meeting next year to extend the MoU until 2025.

Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Sujatmiko said the partnership would have great potential. “This plan will be a crucial foundation and an excellent investment for further collaboration between Indonesia and Brunei,” said Sujatmiko, according to the embassy’s statement.

Sujatmiko added that Indonesia was ready to send its medical professionals to Brunei and accept Brunei’s investment in international hospitals in Indonesia. Moreover, Indonesia can supply traditional remedies to Brunei.
