5.5-magnitude earthquake that hit Sumbawa regency in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on early Saturday destroyed a number of houses and a house of worship in Labangka district.
The earthquake was recorded at 70 kilometers southeast of Sumbawa at a depth of 43 kilometers.
As of Sunday, the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had recorded at least 45 aftershocks around the epicenter of the first earthquake.
“So far, no fatalities have been reported,” NTB Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Ahsanul Khalik said in Mataram, NTB, on Sunday.
In Labangka subdistrict, the earthquake damaged Semare Budhi Temple in Beringin Jaya village and at least five other houses. A house in Sekokat subdistrict and the office of the Labangka animal health center (Puskeswan) in Sukadamai were also destroyed.
“We have reported it to the governor,” said Ahsanul, adding that his side collected the data from the Sumbawa Disaster Mitigation Agency, Sumbawa Military District Command and the Sumbawa Public Order Agency.
The earthquake was also felt in Lombok, triggering panic among residents. Lombok was rattled by powerful earthquakes in August last year, resulting in the deaths of at least 469 people.
