he Semarang Corruption Court has sentenced House of Representatives deputy speaker and senior National Mandate Party (PAN) politician Taufik Kurniawan to six years in prison for bribery in a case connected to special allocation funds (DAK) for Kebumen and Purbalingga regencies. The court also stripped him of his political rights for three years, starting with his release from prison.

The judges also sentenced him to a Rp 200 million (US$14,347) fine. If he fails to pay the fine, four months will be added to his prison term.

The sentence is lighter than the prosecutor’s demand of eight years in prison and a revocation of political rights for five years.

Taufik had returned Rp 4.24 billion in state funds via the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), noted presiding judge Antonius Widijanto.
