T Transjakarta has temporarily taken 59 Minitrans buses from Kopaja off the streets following a fire on one of its buses on Jl. Basuki Rahmat, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on July 20.

The fire apparently started in the air conditioning system.

Transjakarta's acting director of engineering, Welfizon Yuza, said that Transjakarta and Kopaja had formed a team to test the roadworthiness of the entire fleet of buses, which would require at least three days. So far, of the 19 buses inspected, one was found to not be roadworthy.

During the inspection, Welfizon added, the company had deployed other buses to replace the grounded ones. “We provided 50 percent of all grounded buses,” he said as quoted by tempo.co.

Kopaja has 151 Minitrans buses operating in the city, which were made by three different companies, namely Toyota, Hino and Isuzu. Kopaja said all of them started operating from 2012 to 2014 and were integrated with Transjakarta in 2015.

“Under the integration partnership, they should comply with Transjakarta’s quality standards. In the future, we will ask the operators to provide only brand new vehicles that meet our standards,” he said. (vla)
