The West Jakarta Police arrested on Monday three suspected suppliers of marijuana who were thought to have distributed it on campuses throughout the capital.
The suspects, identified only as HK, AT and FF, were arrested in Bekasi, West Java. The police said they were dropouts from an unidentified university.
The arrests were made following the arrest of two university students of a private university in East Jakarta over the weekend. The two students allegedly stored 10 kilograms of marijuana in an on-campus room used by the student senate. The marijuana was allegedly ready to be distributed to campuses throughout the capital.
“The three suspects are suppliers of marijuana to campuses in Jakarta that are controlled by a big dealer from outside. We are still looking for the big fish,” West Jakarta Police narcotics head Sr. Adj. Comr. Erick Firdaus said as quoted by kompas.com.
The police have confiscated 12 kilograms of marijuana from the arrest of the five suspects.
They will be charged under Article 111 of the Narcotics Law that carries a maximum 20-year prison term. (das/iwa)
