22-year-old woman identified as Widya and her new partner Ramli, 23, were injured after being attacked on Sunday in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta. Widya’s former partner Eki, 23, is being held as a suspect in the case.
“The [alleged] perpetrator is the female victim’s ex-boyfriend. They broke up a while ago, but he said he often felt jealous,” East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Ady Wibowo said as quoted by kompas.com.
Ady added that on the day the incident took place, Eki picked up Widya from work and brought her to the location where the crime took place.
Eki called Ramli using Widya’s phone and asked him to come over. When Ramli arrived, he demanded Eki explain why he had taken Widya there.
Eki is then alleged to have taken out an air rifle and hit Ramli on the head with it.
“Having hit Ramli with the rifle, he then shot Widya in the abdomen,” Ady said.
As Eki was reloading his gun, Ramli tried to snatch it but was shot in the leg.
Widya and Ramli are receiving medical treatment at Pondok Kopi Islamic Hospital in East Jakarta, while Eki has been detained by the police. (vla)
