The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) during an operation on Monday apprehended five individuals, including a prosecutor with the Yogyakarta Prosecutors’ Office, for alleged involvement in bribery case.

They are accused of being involved in bribery related to a project overseen by the local administration’s Central-Regional Development, Governance, Security and Supervisory Team (TP4D), KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said.

After the arrests in Yogyakarta, the five individuals were transported to Surakarta, Central Java, from which they were flown at 6 a.m. on Tuesday to KPK headquarters in Jakarta.

“They are currently undergoing intensive questioning,” Febri said on Tuesday.

Besides the prosecutor working for the TP4D at the Yogyakarta Prosecutors’ Office, the four others were the head of the Yogyakarta Public Works and City Planning Agency's natural resources division, the chairman of the Yogyakarta Board of City Services and two private businesspeople.

During the operation, an investigation team of the KPK had also seized a sum of cash suspected to be bribe money, Febri said.

“We’ve seized about Rp 100 million (US$7,000),” he said.

As of 12 p.m. on Tuesday, none of the arrested individuals had yet officially been named suspects. (rfa)
