The Jakarta Police are hunting attackers who threw Molotov cocktails at the Golkar Party central executive board (DPP) headquarters in Slipi, West Jakarta, on Wednesday.
The attack took place at around 3:05 a.m. with four people riding two motorcycles throwing two gasoline bombs near the building.
Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono confirmed the incident.
“Four men arrived in two motorcycles, threw the Molotov cocktails, and left. Their faces were covered with facemasks and helmets,” Argo said as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.
According to witnesses, flames only one of the bombs ignited.
As one of the assailants was about to light the second bomb, bystanders began shouting at him, causing him to panic and throw the device at them.
Golkar’s board of experts chairman Agung Laksono said the party had already handed over CCTV footage of the entrance of the headquarters to the police.
Argo said the police were examining the recordings to identify the assailants. “The police have already checked some CCTV [recordings] to find the perpetrators.” (bry)
