he Indonesian Table Tennis Association (PP PTMSI) has joined forces with SSP holding to organize the 24th ITTF Asian Table Tennis Championship at the Among Rogo sports hall in Yogyakarta from Sept. 15 to 22. So far, 44 athletes from 36 countries have enrolled in the event, which also serves as a qualifying round for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

There are nine categories at the upcoming event. Indonesia will deploy athletes including Syahrizal Nauval Akbar Mamonto and Arfan Senia Pramudya on men’s team and Siti Aminah and Tyas Syahrani on women’s team.

Table tennis powerhouses like China, Taiwan, South Korea, North Korea and Japan will deploy their best athletes to test potential opponents for Tokyo.

The association’s chief Comr. Gen. Oegroseno stated that thousands of participants, including athletes, coaches, officials and spectators from abroad, would attend the event and therefore serve as an opportunity to boost sports tourism.

“We are on a quest to promote healthy lifestyles and the sport to the world. This is the time for us to show the world what we are made off,” former National Police deputy chief Oegroseno said.
