he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has started the month with a series of arrests, including the naming of the regent of Muara Enim in South Sumatra, Ahmad Yani a suspect in a bribery case.
On Monday, the KPK arrested four people in Muara Enim for alleged bribery in Muara Enim Public Works and Public Housing Agency (PUPR) projects in 2019. After a further investigation, KPK decided to name the head of the road construction unit in Muara Enim PUPR Elfin Muhtar and the owner of PT Enra Sari, Robi Okta Fahlefi, suspects alongside Ahmad.
The suspects were arrested on Monday at 5 p.m. local time in Palembang. The KPK also confiscated US$35,000 as evidence during the arrest.
At a press conference on Tuesday, KPK deputy chairperson Basaria Panjaitan alleged Ahmad received Rp 13.4 billion ($943,976) from Robi as a 10 percent commitment fee for 16 road construction projects worth Rp 130 billion.
“We suspect that the company gave the 10 percent commitment fee as a requirement in order to be selected as the contractor in the procurement project,” Basaria said, adding that Ahmad was believed to be the one who requested the commitment fee.
Robi, Elfin, and Ahmad will be charged under articles 5 and 12 of Law No. 31/1999 on Corruption Eradication.

The five people were identified as money changer company manager Freddy Tandou, president director of PT Kharisma Pemasaran Bersama Nusantara (KPBN) Edward S. Ginting and his staff member Corry Luca, as well as state-owned plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (PTPN III) marketing director I Kadek Kertha Laksana and Ramlin an employee of PT Fajar Mulia Transindo owner Pieko Njoto Setiadi.
