The development of the Cisumdawu toll road, which will connect Bandung with Majalengka, is expected to boost the accessibility of Kertajati International Airport.
The Public Works and Housing Ministry expects to complete the construction of the Cisumdawu toll road in West Java by the end of next year. About half of the 62-kilometer toll road from Cileunyi via Sumedang to Dawuan is to be ready for the 2020 Idul Fitri travel season.
"For the 2020 Idul Fitri exodus, sections 1 to 3 to Sumedang are expected to be functionally opened," Indonesia Toll Road Authority (BPJT) head Danang Parikesit said in a press statement on Thursday.
The Cisumdawu toll road, which will connect Bandung with Majalengka, is expected to boost the accessibility of Kertajati International Airport, which currently struggles to attract passengers. The completion of the road is to cut travel time from Bandung to the newly inaugurated airport to only 1 hour from around 2.5 hours at present.
The construction of the Cisumdawu toll road is carried out by the government and private companies. The government is responsible for supporting the construction of sections 1-2, a stretch of 29 km. Meanwhile, the construction of sections 3-6 measuring 32.8 km is carried out by Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT)'s PT Citra Karya Jabar Tol (CKJT).
Land acquisition had become an obstacle for the construction, said Danang. To speed up the process, the Public Works and Housing Ministry is working with the West Java administration, Subang administration, the National Land Agency (BPN) and other institutions, ensuring that the land acquisition process is carried out in accordance with prevailing laws.
The hilly terrain of the area poses another challenge for the developers, as it makes excavation and hoarding work hard to carry out.
“Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has instructed the ministry to help the administrations boost their local economic growths so that the local administrations is at the forefront [of regional development] while we assist them,” said Danang, whose agency is under the ministry.
