Speed cameras will be installed in eight spots on toll roads in Greater Jakarta.
oll roads in Greater Jakarta will soon be equipped with speed cameras as the Jakarta Police and state toll operator PT Jasa Marga are to enact the Electronic Law Enforcement (ETLE) ticketing system in a bid to reduce traffic violations on the country’s most heavily used toll roads.
Speed cameras will take pictures of vehicles that speed, among other traffic violations.
“We are in the process of integrating Jasa Marga’s speed cameras and the Jakarta Police ETLE system. We expect to launch this next month,” Jasa Marga operational director Subakti Syukur said.
Of the 44 toll roads in the country, the four with the heaviest traffic are in Greater Jakarta. According to Indonesia Toll Road Authority (BPJT) data in 2017, the Jakarta- Cikampek toll road has the most traffic volume at 224,350,777, the Jakarta-Bogor-Ciawi toll road has a volume of 197.690.396, the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road 130,590,127 and the Cawang- Tomang-Pluit section of the innercity toll road has 123,321,312.
The ETLE has already been implemented on Jl. Sudirman and Jl. MH Thamrin in Central Jakarta, although speed cameras have yet to be installed.
“The ETLE will be implemented on toll roads in Greater Jakarta. We are now preparing the system in eight spots in on the inner Jakarta toll road, Prof. Dr. Ir. Soedijatmo, Jakarta-Tangerang, Jakarta-Cikampek, Jagorawi and [part of] the Jakarta Outer Ring Road,” Subakti said in a written statement on Monday.
Two speed cameras will be installed on the Jagorawi/Cibubur toll section for both directions, two on the Jakarta-Cikampek section for both directions, one on the Jakarta-Tangerang section, one on the Tomang-Prof. Sedyatmo section heading to Soekarno-Hatta airport, one on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road between Rorotan and Cikunir, one at the Semanggi 1 tollgate and one at the Kuningan 1 tollgate.
