resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered increased security details for his Cabinet ministers and state officials after Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto fell victim to an attack during a working visit on Thursday.
Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said Jokowi immediately called for more security for his aides after the incident in Pandeglang, Banten, in which a man stabbed the chief security minister with a bladed weapon.
In particular, the President ordered that all state officials be given core security details from now on, Pramono said after visiting Wiranto at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta on Thursday.
“The thing is, under Jokowi’s tenure, many ministers and officials didn’t want to be escorted by security guards,” Pramono said. “But after we have seen this incident, the [security] threat is real and the [attack on Wiranto] was organized.”
Improvements of the security details for officials did not need to be excessive, he said, “but it’s very important to be vigilant.”
Wiranto, who underwent surgery to treat two abdominal stab wounds sustained in the assault, was allegedly stabbed by a man identified as SA aka Abu Rara, who authorities said was affiliated with the Islamic State-linked homegrown militant group Jamaan Ansharut Daulah (JAD).
