View all search resultsThe Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia Pacific Cities (TPO) will meet in Sumatra to discuss how to boost city tourism in the Asia-Pacific region.
orth Sumatra will host the 10th general assembly of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia-Pacific Cities (TPO) in November 2021.
The assembly -- the first held in Indonesia -- will bring together 1,500 officials from 16 TPO member states and 51 tourist industry members from nine countries.
TPO secretary-general Kim Soo-Il said on Monday that the event would be an opportunity for North Sumatra to boost tourism and other sectors of the economy.
“Important people from Asia Pacific will go to North Sumatra. It will open opportunities for education, industry and much more,” he said after a meeting at the North Sumatra governor’s office.
Foreign state leaders are also expected to come to the event, Kim said.
Established in 2002, the TPO is an international organization that promotes the development of city-based tourism in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to the organization’s website aptpo.org, the TPO is made up of 125 city governments and about 51 non-governmental entities, consisting of tourism associations, research institutes and businesses.
