Para athlete Karisma Evi Tiarani breaks world record for women's 100 m

Indonesian para athlete Karisma Evi Tiarani seized the world’s attention on Thursday as she broke the 100-meter world record in the under T63 category at the World Para Athletics Championship 2019 currently being held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

ndonesian para athlete Karisma Evi Tiarani seized the world’s attention on Thursday as she broke the 100-meter world record in the under T63 category at the World Para Athletics Championship 2019 currently being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Karisma finished in a time of 14.72 seconds, followed by Italian Monica Graziana Contrafatto, who came in at 15.56 seconds and Gitte Haenen of Belgium in third position with 15.60 seconds.

Karisma's achievement is the Indonesian contingent’s first gold from the event, which is being held from Nov. 7 to 15, Antara news service reported. With the world record, Karisma has automatically bagged herself a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Indonesian pararunner Saptoyoga Purnomo secured a bronze medal from the men's 100 meters under T37 category. Saptoyoga also broke the Asian record with a time of 11.41 seconds.
