he 188 Indonesian crew members of World Dream cruise ship will soon leave Sebaru Island in the Thousand Islands regency of Jakarta after completing their 14-day quarantine for COVID-19.
The World Dream suspended operations after docking in Hong Kong in early February. It spent days in quarantine at the Kai Tak Cruise terminal after three Chinese nationals who had been aboard the ship between Jan. 19 and 24 tested positive for COVID-19.
The Indonesian Navy evacuated the 188 crew members from the virus-stricken cruise ship on Feb. 26 and transferred them to Sebaru Island for quarantine.
The commander of an Integrated Joint Task Command (Kogasgabpad) handling the quarantine, Rear Adm. Yudo Margono, said on Thursday that the quarantine would end on Friday.
All of the crew members will be transported to mainland Jakarta on Saturday using naval ship KRI Semarang-594, before returning to their homes. Each member will receive a certificate from the Health Ministry declaring they are free from COVID-19, Yudo said as reported by Antara news agency.
He added that around 60 percent of the crew members were from Bali and had mainly worked as cooks.
"The latest test results show that all of the crew members are healthy,” he said. (vny)
