Floodwaters filled parts of Jakarta following heavy rain on Monday.
loodwaters filled parts of Jakarta following heavy rain on Monday and submerged two subdistricts in East Jakarta, namely Cipinang Melayu in Makassar district and Tengah in Kramat Jati district.
Due to the heavy rain, the nearby Sunter River in East Jakarta overflowed, with the water level rising 30 to 100 centimeters, inundating community unit (RW) 03 and 04 in Cipinang Melayu on Monday afternoon.
Cipinang Melayu subdistrict head Agus Sulaeman confirmed floodwaters remained in the area until nightfall.
“There are 521 households affected by the floods,” Agus told kompas.com on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, a number of areas in Tengah were flooded with water levels of 10 to 50 cm in the afternoon. Data from Kramat Jati district showed that flooding had also occurred in nine community units.
Kramat Jati district head Eka Darmawan said the inundation was caused by high intensity rain but floodwaters in most locations had quickly receded.
“The Bulak Rantai complex in RW 05 was flooded but soon the waters receded,” Eka took an example, adding that no residents felt the need for evacuation.
Tengah subdistrict head Tarmiji said all areas had a rapid absorption capacity, except RW 04, which was still submerged as high as 20 cm in the evening.
“Soon it will also recede,” he said. (syk)
