he Crimes Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Medan Police arrested one of its members who allegedly shot dead a fellow officer with a loaded Glock pistol inside a barrack of the Medan Police Control Unit (Sabhara) last week.
The suspect, Second Brig. KHN, was charged with murder and negligence after he reportedly accidentally shot his fellow police officer, Second Brig. DS, in a joke gone wrong. The victim was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head on Saturday.
"It started as a joke when the suspect aimed the gun at the victim. But, it turned fatal," the head of Medan Police headquarters, Sr. Comr. Johnny Eddizzon Isir, said in a press conference on Monday
He went on to say that the suspect thought the gun was unloaded. According to Johnny, the gun belonged to the deputy director of the Medan Police's Satreskrim, Adj. Sr. Comr. Bagus Oktobrianto.
"We are still investigating how the suspect could get access to the gun," he said, adding that the Glock pistol along with 12 bullets, one ammunition magazine, one shell of ammunition and one projectile had been submitted as evidence.
Johnny said the suspect could be charged under Article 338 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on murder and Article 359 of the KUHP on negligence causing death and faces a minimum sentence of five years' imprisonment. (trn)
