S

tate-owned electricity company PLN has assured that buildings located along Jl. Panglima Polim, South Jakarta, would continue to have power after a video showing power lines exploding went viral on Monday morning.

PLN Jakarta general manager Ikhsan Asaad said in a statement released the same day that the company had been alerted about “electricity cables on fire” at around 10:17 a.m. It immediately dispatched technicians and firefighters to put out the flames and isolate power cuts. He did not confirm whether or not the cable belonged to PLN.

“Only one customer lost electricity, but by 11:10 things had returned to normal.”

A video of the incident showed thick smock emanating from a set of power lines as small explosions went off for two minutes.

The explosions occurred between Vineth Bakery and Dago Korean restaurant, near an intersection between the main road and Jl. Panglima Polim IX.
