ndonesia is getting closer to Singapore, the country with the most confirmed COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia, as it recorded 1,106 new cases to bring the total to 40,400 on Tuesday.
On the same day, Singapore announced 214 new cases, bringing the total number of known infections in the country to 40,818. However, Singapore recorded a much lower fatality at 26 deaths, while Indonesia recorded 2,231 fatalities.
According to the Health Ministry’s disease control and prevention director general, Achmad Yurianto, Indonesia saw 580 recoveries to make 15,703 in total as well as 33 deaths on Tuesday.
Jakarta recorded 101 new confirmed cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of positive cases to 9,222 in the capital. Meanwhile, East Java reported 245 new cases, South Sulawesi saw 175 new cases, South Kalimantan recorded 169 new cases, Central Java saw 56 new cases, and South Sumatra recorded 50 new cases.
In the meantime, the Philippines is the third country in the region with the most recorded cases at 26,420 and 1,098 fatalities as of Tuesday.
