KPK detains Humpuss Transportasi Kimia president director in bribery case

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Taufik Agustono, president director of private transportation company PT Humpuss Transportasi Kimia (HTK), in a bribery case.
The case, which concerns the shipping industry, has also implicated former Golkar Party lawmaker Bowo Sidik Pangarso.
The antigraft agency named Taufik a suspect in October 2019 for his alleged involvement in bribing Bowo, who had a role in helping close a business deal between HTK and PT Pupuk Indonesia Logistik (PILOG), a subsidiary of state-owned fertilizer enterprise Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company (PHIC).
"[Taufik] was declared a suspect following an arrest on March 28, 2019, involving Bowo as a [bribe] recipient," KPK commissioner Lili Pintauli Siregar said on Friday in a press conference.
She went on to say that the former lawmaker received several payments from HTK between November 2018 and March 2019, amounting to US$88,733 and Rp 89.4 million ($6,284).
The antigraft agency accused the suspect of violating Article 5 or 13 of the 2001 Corruption Law.
Lili said that Taufik would be detained for 20 days from June 26 to July 15 at the KPK detention facility for further questioning. "There will be an isolation period of 14 days as a part of our protocol to prevent COVID-19 transmission," she added.
The Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Bowo to five years’ imprisonment, in addition to requiring him to pay a fine of Rp 250 million in December for accepting the bribe. The sentence, however, was lighter than the prosecutors' demand of seven years in prison and a Rp 300 million fine.
The court also found the former lawmaker guilty of having accepted Rp 300 million from president director of private sea-transportation supplier PT Ardila Insan Sejahtera (AIS) Lamidi Jimat.
Separately, the court has also sentenced Asty Winasty — former HTK marketing general manager who handed out the bribe from the company — to 18 months’ imprisonment and a Rp 50 million fine.
Meanwhile, M. Indung Andriani, who allegedly received the bribe on behalf of Bowo, was sentenced to two years in prison and a Rp 50 million fine.
